The mystery of Halloween

Halloween is approaching and our sailors are getting ready. It is an important date with our friends the pirates, and even more so with the Explorers. Do you know why?

I have heard that our Captain Archibald is preparing his arrival on a mystery island for the occasion. He is the only one who knows what is hidden there, and has given his word as a pirate that he will keep the secret intact! When I heard about this mystery island, I remembered something that we had experienced on board 33 years ago. This event will remain forever engraved in our memories as pirates.

Let me tell you all about it:

First of all, before telling you about our adventure, let me tell you who I am, I would like to introduce myself! You probably already know me, but you never know, maybe new pirates are just arriving on board the Explorers! I’m Jako, Captain Archibald’s faithful flying companion, the one who has been with him for years. Now that the introductions have been made, prepare to plunge into the heart of my terrifying story.

It was an October evening, on the 31st to be precise. Our boat had drifted and we were lost at sea. That evening it was pitch black, bitterly cold and our supplies were running out. The crew was beginning to lose hope when suddenly we saw a shoreline in the distance. It was a beach that seemed to be deserted. Without thinking, Captain Archibald decided to go ashore, convinced that he would find food and perhaps some hidden treasures…

– « Let’s split up, » ordered the captain, « and let’s meet again on this beach when the sun has reached its zenith. »

So the sailors made haste and separated into groups of two or three. The captain found himself alone with me, his dear and faithful parrot. As usual, Captain Archibald was advancing with a strong step. The time to find the crew was coming, but we were rushing into the heart of the forest when suddenly the sky turned black and we saw a sparkling cave in the distance. Neither one nor two of us made our way to that cave. My feathers were ruffled with fear, but the captain repeated that if we had arrived on this island, it was not by chance, and that a treasure was meant for us! What put the flea in our captain’s ear was the fact that this island was not on any map… A sign? I didn’t have time to think about it, when suddenly we entered this cave in absolute darkness.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

A terrible fall brought us face to face with a huge statue at the bottom of the cave. It was the first time in my life as a parrot that I saw Captain Archibald shudder with fear. The ground began to shake and a monstrous creature escaped from the stone statue.

– How dare you disturb me on my island? It has been more than a century since anyone had dared to set foot on it and the punishment will be terrible! « grunted the creature.

The captain, stunned, did not let a word slip out, and the monster continued:

– « From this day forward and for 33 years, the curse of the cursed island will descend upon you every year on the evening of October 31st. Your boat will be engulfed in a mist and you will land on a mysterious island, the secret of which only you, Archibald, will know. But beware! If you reveal what is hidden there, your ship will be cursed forever, and so will your sailors on board!  »

The captain knew that he could not go against such a curse. He bravely accepted his fate and set off again to join his crew, who had found enough supplies. He said nothing of what had just happened and kept this heavy secret.

This year is the 33rd year of the curse. The captain protected us all this time by being the only one who knew that Halloween night was a night of uncertainty. Mission accomplished, as no one suspected anything! Today it is important for you to know that we will be landing on a mystery island on the evening of October 31, 2020. What is this island preparing for us? The captain didn’t want to tell me more but we risk being surprised because this year, everything will be revealed to you…
