Today, we meet Michael Hanssens, the Food & Beverage Manager of the Explorers Hotel at Disneyland® Paris. He explains to us the change in eating habits, the increase in the number of people with allergies and the diversity of those allergies. The Explorers Hotel at Disneyland® Paris has adapted to these new demands. Zoom in on the initiatives the hotel took regarding those special diets.
In the last ten years, the number of people following a special diet has grown, due allergies or ethical values. Eating habits are changing and we need to adapt to this new demand. The farming of some animals and today’s production methods are creating new needs for our customers. In addition, we must keep up to date of the allergens present in the products we offer and their effects in order to better adapt what we offer to our international clientele.
“Certain special diets are more and more frequent and people with allergies or intolerance to gluten, nuts, crustaceans or lactose, for example, are more numerous. Our teams and our suppliers are adapting to these new needs by offering, in an increasing way, products that meet these new diets and eating habits“, explains Michael.
At the Explorers Hotel, it is important for us, to offer a wide variety of dishes so that our vegetarian guests can fully enjoy their dining experience. All our restaurants offer vegetarian option, whether at our all-you-can-eat restaurant La Plantation, our « à la carte restaurant » The Captain’s Library or our pizzeria Marco’s Pizza. Varied, balanced, vegetarian meals… but gourmet dishes are offered every evening at La Plantation: vegetables, pasta, etc. A delicious vegetarian pizza is available at the Marco’s Pizza restaurant: Tomatoes, cheese, mushrooms, courgette, black olives, peppers, onions … what a great way to treat our vegetarian customers! At The Captain’s Library, enjoy succulent vegetarian lasagna or ravioli with ricotta and basil with a pesto cream.

At the Explorers Hotel, close to Disneyland® Paris, we do adapt our offerings, in the best way, to meet our customer’s diets. We can even prepare some dishes to order « Our customers just have to specify when they are arriving at the restaurant. Our Chef and his team can adapt to different requests: Meals that are salt-free, egg-free, gluten-free, lactose-free etc.: everything is possible, our restaurant team will be happy to discuss any special needs you may have. To help, our teams use a list outlining the allergens present in the dishes we offer in order to perfectly meet the expectations of our customers and take no risk. »
In all our restaurants, La Plantation (open every day from 7h to 10h30 and 18h to 22h30), The Captain’s Library (open daily from 18h to 22h) and the pizzeria Marco’s Pizza (open daily from 17h to 23h), we offer foods, available on request, that meet the special diets for our customers. For example, for our intolerant or gluten-allergic customers, we have different kinds of breads, gluten-free croissants and pain au chocolat for breakfast. In the evening, we also offer gluten-free pizza and pasta…). All components of the proposed dishes are classified in an allergen table that serves as a guide to our teams for the preparation of dishes.
